Stemphylium blight reduces milling qualities of lentil

Stemphylium blight (SB) (Stemphylium botryosum) is a major disease of lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.) in many global production regions. In Canada, SB typically occurs after canopy closure the second half growing season when weather conditions become warm and humid. Experiments were carried out to assess impact on milling qualities lentil. 2014, red lentils compared between seed obtained from an uninfected site those produced at naturally SB-infected site. 2016 2017, controlled field experiments conducted by artificially inoculating plots with conidia early flowering stage. Seed yield infected was reduced 52, 22, 30% control 2016, respectively. The percentages stained deformed seeds increased 2017. Seeds have qualities.
